The Suspicions of Mr Whicher DVD

After clearing up during awards season with his debut movie as a writer director, Paddy Considine has spent the last couple of years doing what he also does exceedingly well: get in front of the cameras and perform.

Considine appears on the big screen in this month’s Pride and he’ll soon be seen alongside Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender in a big-budget adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

First, however, he’s returning to the small screen as Victorian crime-solver Mr Whicher. Based on the bestselling novel by Kate Summerscale, Mr Whicher is an uncompromising sleuth, though no longer a part of the establishment.

The Suspicions of Mr Whicher

In the previous Whicher films, the character had been a detective at Scotland Yard but after suffering a breakdown and losing his place on the force, Whicher now operates as a “private enquiry agent”. Two perplexing new mysteries see Whicher take on a political scandal and more. While at the centre of it all is a wonderful performance from one of Britain’s best actors.

One of the best, but perhaps not the biggest household name, Considine has played supporting roles in critically acclaimed films like 24 Hour Party People, Hot Fuzz and Submarine. He won real admirers for his work with Shane Meadows, from his screen debut as the twisted Morell in A Room for Romeo Brass to his devastating performance as Richard, a man of vengeance in Dead Man’s Shoes.

After appearing alongside A-listers Matt Damon and Russell Crowe in films like The Bourne Ultimatum and Cinderella Man, Considine headed to the small screen to take centre stage in the Mr Whicher films.

Whicher returns to ITV in the first of two new mysteries, Beyond the Pale. In this thrilling chapter of the Whicher story, the detective is called on by Sir Edward Shore, the former Home Secretary.

Shore’s son has just returned from India after the mutiny and an Indian man named Asim Jabour has allegedly followed him to the homeland and threatened him. It’s up to Whicher to find him and nullify the threat.

Fans of gritty crime drama and engrossing period pieces will love The Suspicions of Mr Whicher as much as we love the man at the centre of it.

A former artist and photographer, Paddy Considine moved into acting and never looked back, of course along the way he has also written and directed an award winning feature film, Tyrannosaur, and he even fronts his own indie band called Riding the Low.

In short, he’s brilliant, and especially in this thrilling new ITV drama. Pre-order your copy of The Suspicions of Mr Whicher: Beyond the Pale and The Ties That Bind today. You’ll enjoy a special offer price and could receive your copy before the DVD is officially released in autumn 2014.
