Inspector George Gently Series 7

Inspector George Gently Series 7 is currently making its TV bow and the official DVD is available to pre-order right now at Acorn. Here are three reasons that the show is worth investigating:

1. The Cast

The latest series of the hit procedural reunites Martin Shaw as George Gently and Lee Ingleby as DS John Bacchus, and the pair’s love/hate relationship is as witty and entertaining as ever. They might get on each other’s nerves but they’re partners do and throughout the four new episodes they’ll need to have each other’s back on numerous occasions.

Also returning is Lisa McGrillis as WPC Rachel Coles and fans of the show will tell you how great this news is, since the whip-smart and ambitious Coles is one of the highlights of the show. Elsewhere, there are plenty of big name guest stars to keep things even more interesting, including Denise Welch, Jody Latham and the one and only Vic Reeves.

2. The Setting

Like Broadchurch and more recently Poldark, one of the biggest stars of Inspector George Gently is the show’s Northumberland setting. In addition to natural beauty, the location is dark and mysterious, crammed full with secrets and thrilling surprises.

Despite the fact that Gently is a period drama, it never bombards audiences with its sixties-ness. Instead it truly inhabits the period. Appearing all the more authentic and gripping as a result.

3. The Bigger Picture

While always entertaining, Inspector George Gently doesn’t shy away from hard-hitting themes and tough topics. The show uses its period setting to show how attitudes in the modern era have changed to a variety of issues, including sexism, post traumatic stress disorder, and in Series 7 sexual assault.

While never overbearing, the show isn’t afraid to tell us a lot about the world we live in. What better reasons to spend some time in this world with Martin Shaw and the rest of this wonderful cast.

Inspector George Gently Series 7 on DVD is released on 13 July 2015. But you can preorder your copy right now at Acorn DVD. For more information, click here.
