Shine On Harvey Moon was the first great series to be created by the writing partnership of Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran who went on to create such comedy classics as Birds of a Feather and Goodnight Sweetheart. Originally broadcast on ITV in 1984, Shine On Harvey Moon Following his marriage breakdown, Harvey, now Councillor Moon, and his mother move into a flat in a large house owned by brother and sister Erich and Frieda Gottlieb.


Harvey is stunned when he receives a ‘Dear John’ letter from his new love Harriet in Holland. Ex-wife Rita is still involved with racketeer Monty and is shocked when his pregnant fiancée visits. Maggie is also broken-hearted when boyfriend Lou writes to Harvey, asking him to tell Maggie that he’s met someone else during his convalescence in Scotland. The Moons, Harvey, Mum Violet and Maggie all seek work and Harvey finds a job as an assistant clerk in a solicitor’s office, Violet sews on buttons for Frieda and Maggie works as a shop assistant in a hat shop. Harvey and Frieda slowly become romantically involved – much to her brother Erich’s disapproval.
